Power of Choice Keynote
In the Power of Choice Keynote, Scott Gallagher distinguishes that we are constantly choosing the thoughts we think about and the circumstances we experience. We have the Power to Choose what our personal story really means and be empowered to make better choices.
Scott tells his personal story of childhood abuse, and his past addictions to paint and varnish remover, marijuana and cigarettes, coffee, crack, and abusing others, etc. There were a lot of "reasons" that would explain his choices. He shares that by CHOOSING the thoughts he focused on, it led to better feelings, which led to smarter choices, and a better life. |
|
Habit Mastery Tools and Tips Q & A
After showing students the benefits of self evaluating your thoughts in the keynote, students and adults can self-select to participate in our open forum Q & A session about building positive habits.
Students and participants can really begin to understand how to build better habits and the importance of integrity. |
|
Team Leadership Workshop
Students who attend the workshop get trained and developed in 'honouring our word' over following our reasons, excuses, and feelings.
EX: Often times when running 10km the mind often tells us to give up when we're tired or had enough. Reducing the focus on feelings and keeping the promises and words that we give increases your ability to trust yourself to make better choices to attain your goals, whether they be reducing/stopping unwanted habits or building healthy new ones. Check out how the workshop participants begin developing structures to maintain their success habits. |
|
Train the Trainer Program
Adult participants of the program get to learn effective tools and actionable tips in maintaining the self-sustaining 4 Week Team Leadership Program. These tools and tips can even be incorporated daily in running classrooms, raising families, or working with extra curricular teams.
The adult participants will also have one coaching call with a highly trained facilitator to support the success of the participants in the programs. |
|
Community Evening Keynote
To support the transformation within the students and the school, the parents and community are invited to the parent teacher keynote. Including the parents of the students has proven to help make a more profound change in their lives. The kids will have an environment at home that fosters the same positive and empowering lessons they learn in the Choice Empowered Youth 6 Program Curriculum.

4 Week Team Leadership Program
The keynote, Q&A and Team Leadership Workshops develop students' knowledge of themselves which instills the skill of being mindful of who they are. Being present allows students to be better leaders of their own lives.
Our programs lead into a 4 week self-sustaining program where participants practice daily healthy and success habits. The 4 week program allows students to be mindful of who they are and thus take leadership of their lives. This includes having kids run meetings, practice leadership, and hold their group members accountable for the promises they intended to fulfill (without making each other wrong, feel bad, or guilty if promises were not fulfilled). |

"The kids seem to be doing very well! They are coming to talk to me individually... Not only are they keeping up with their water and physical activity, they are also cutting down on their addictions quite substantially!!!
I see it working!! Which I am grateful to you for!!!" - Ashley Rachul, 1st Year Teacher, Coronach School, Saskatchewan, Ontario "The real highlight of the program for me was the sense of community that developed. Students who are less comfortable socially began working with other students they wouldn't normally encounter. I think some of them experienced a real sense of community for the very first time. That level of personal growth will benefit them into the next school year and for years to come."
- Doris Wyatt, Teacher, Broadview High School, Saskatchewan "I know many students were touched by your story and have taken something from it. I will be running a leadership group in the fall that will be mentored by older students and many of the techniques and skills you taught will be incorporated into their training."
- Dorothy Meier, Chestermere High School, Rockyview, Alberta |
"You could have heard a pin drop when Scott talked about his personal experiences. But it wasn't just about telling his story. He gave students real ideas on how to prevent falling into addiction. Things to look for and how to help others. How to identify addictive things. And it wasn't just about one particular drug or addiction. He also talked about bullying, low self-esteem, things that trigger some of these addictions what [kids] can do to try and improve their lives, and to get better. We TOTALLY got our money's worth. "
- Eric Dallin, Vice Principal, Humberside Collegiate, Toronto, Ontario "I feel so much better about myself and I have managed to make friends”
- Student from Northumberland Regional High School, Westville, Nova Scotia "The program is clear, easy to deliver and sets students up for small successes along the journey."
- Heather Wegren, School Counsellor Warman High School, Warman, Saskatchewan "My foster son attended your presentation(s) in Merritt yesterday and came home a changed kid."
- Email from Sue, Parent Meritt, British Columbia |
"This workshop was absolutely phenomenal! After speaking to many of the kids that attended your workshop, the common feedback was that they could not believe there were so many other kids that were in the same boat as them. They now know that they are not alone. For these particular kids, to be part of a group when you are gone, is pretty special for them. It's nice to have presentations but it is even nicer to have presentations like yours that stick with our school."
- Katherine Adams, Student Success Teacher, Glengarry District High School, Alexandria, Ontario "As for the new group that was formed...what is nice is that we now see (in such a short period of time), students talking to other students - ones that they would never have talked to as a result of the group. New friendships have been formed...and students that really needed someone to talk to...have come out and are talking. It's great!"
- Diane Potoczny, Teacher, John Cabot Secondary School, Mississauga, Ontario Scott made us realize the fallacy of our story of being worthless, unwanted, stupid, dumb, weak, spoiled, unworthy, or a loser. He gave us the power to whitewash the tainted picture away.
- Opal Charters, District Principal First Nation Education, Merritt, British Columbia |
"Inclusivity, generosity, acceptance and non-judgment characterize Scott Gallagher's approach...One does not have to agree with everything he states or advocates—indeed, he makes no demand that we do!—to recognize the value of his method, which is to empower (people), no matter what age, with the choice and possibility of transforming negative compulsions into positive commitments.”
- Dr. Gabor Mate author of In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters With Addiction |
"Scott Gallagher's The Power of Choice/Healthy Habits Program rises above simply telling kids to 'stop' whatever bad habits they have - or that they have a disease they'll suffer from for the rest of their lives. Instead, Scott focuses on hope, giving students the confidence, ability, and structure they need to deal with the challenges they face.
Scott's school assemblies inspire youth with his own story of overcoming addiction through personal responsibility, integrity, and service to others. For students who have a self-admitted bad habit or addiction, Scott offers a workshop that succeeds by empowering young people to create a healthy habits community using an accountability/buddy system and structure that sustains itself after he leaves. Ultimately, Scott is a catalyst in enabling kids to help themselves, as well as giving adults around them the tools they need to support kids to change." Psychologist Dr. Stanton Peele is a world-renowned addictions expert and author of nine books in the field, including Love and Addiction, the first book to make clear the interconnectedness of all forms of addiction, and his latest Addiction-Proof your Child. |
"Scott is one of the most passionate people I have ever met. But passion alone is not enough. In [his book, Habit Mastery and The Power of Choice] he combines his deep knowledge, personal experience and commitment to ending unproductive habits of every kind. Scott powerfully bridges the gap between unwanted habits and addictions." - Jamie Broughton, author of The Emerging Leader: Identify,Ignite and Retain Your Company's Next Generation of Leaders |
"In a field where many are rehashing old ideas with little innovation, Scott Gallagher is encouraging us, with an unusual passion, to grow in our understanding and awareness of what motivates us to engage in unwanted behaviors or habits. He does so in a manner that empowers people and guides them to changing behaviors they really never believed they could."
- Dr. Lee Jampolsky, author of Smile For No Good Reason |
“Scott is revolutionizing how addictions and people with addictions are perceived and dealt with. Scott is courageous and willing to speak his mind on these issues. He is committed to a new future in this area, so that people are free, experience love and peace for themselves personally, and are then able to be fully active, engaged and contributing individuals, not stopped by unwanted habits. With Scott's support, people can know themselves and be known by others not by their destructive tendencies, but rather by their higher, truer selves.”
- Tallie Rabin, M.Ed., Founder of Peace by PEACE |
